Poppy's Book Charity
Poppy’s Books is a not for profit charity bringing suitable books to SEN children attending mainstream schools.
Reading for children with additional needs can be extremely challenging. For those attending mainstream school, it can be very difficult to access books that they enjoy and that in turn will spark a love of reading. We believe that all neurodiverse children in mainstream schools should have access to books that are appropriate for their level of development and enjoyment.
By fundraising for the provision of new books for Primary Schools, which are suitable for children with additional needs, we will be taking a step towards making books a full experience.
You can find us on Instagram and Facebook.
Reading for children with additional needs like Poppy can be extremely challenging. Poppy is very much a visual learner and when it comes to books they need to be colourful, interactive, interesting and supportive of Poppys understanding. Poppy has a favourite type of book a collection called “That’s not my” by Usborne. These books provide lovely tactile experiences for children with sensory needs but not a book you would find in a school. At school it can be difficult for children to access the books that a child with additional needs may gain more joy from and that will spark their love for reading!
Due to Poppy’s fundraiser doing so well and so many of you backing our vision I have decided to set up a page selling second hand books where the profits will be reinvested to buy new books for primary schools which will be suitable for neurodiverse children. I would love the word inclusive to really mean inclusive and this would be a very small step in the right direction.
Donations can be made via PayPal to Second hand book donations from the Plymouth area please email me

Meet Our Team
My name is Shvonne. Before having my second child, I worked in education for 10 years doing various roles including being a 1 to 1 in mainstream school, delivering interventions to those with additional needs and as a nursery nurse in early years. I have a foundation degree at level 5 in education. I now run a small business from home, which allows me to stay with my children whilst they are young.
I am a trustee for Poppys book Charity with the role of the chair. I have a passion for SEN and a love of reading, with a special interest for mental health. I love to support Michelle, Poppy and their family in this amazing journey!
Jade is one of our trustees and has also taken the role of treasurer.
Hello, my name is Jade. I am a primary school teacher and I am the lead for reading and library in my school. I have a huge passion for reading, so much so that it was the focus for my dissertation at school. I endeavour to share my love of reading with every child that steps into my classroom as well as with my step daughter.
When I heard about Michelle's vision to help all children access the wonderful world reading has to offer children, I just knew I wanted to do all I could to help! I am a trustee for Poppy’s Book charity with the role of treasurer. I am organised and would love to work with the other strong and passionate ladies to move this brilliant vision forward and benefit other children like Poppy!
